volunteering for deer park

Our Deer Park Centre simply wouldn't exist without the hard work and dedication of a band of volunteers from across the county. There are a range of ways you can get involved, and if you can think of something else, we'd love to hear from you!

To help us to thank our volunteers, we've launched a Deer Park 50 hours Service Challenge Award.

EVENT VOLUNTEERS

We run a wide range of events at Deer Park and they all need volunteers to make them happen. From helping with admin, planning and preparations, to being there on the day and helping with car parking, running activities, and so on, there is something for everyone who wants to get involved. Volunteers can be Rangers and Young Leaders (aged 14-18 years) or adults.

Email our Events & Activities Coordinators, Lexi & Kim, to find out more about the current events available that need your support. More details of the current events can also be found on the Events Page.

ACTIVITY INSTRUCTORS

The majority of the instructors at our centre are volunteers. We provide volunteers with the training and support required to run the sessions as well as travel expenses to and from the site. In exchange, the instructors provide you with amazing experiences.

Email us to find out more about becoming an instructor.

DEER PARK DIAMONDS

The Deer Park Diamonds are a group of volunteers (Girlguiding Gloucestershire Leaders and Trefoil Guild members plus their friends and family) who spend time at Deer Park carrying out a number of tasks to help us keep the place looking fabulous for our visitors. They usually meet at 10am - see the planned dates here. There is something for everyone, no matter what your skills or experience.

Tasks undertaken this year include gardening, planting trees & flowers, weeding, cutting grass, creosoting the outdoor buildings and fences, clearing the campfire areas, sweeping and tidying shelters and other areas, to name but a few.

Email our Deer Park Chair for more information or to join our fabulous volunteer team.

MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEERS

We are looking for volunteers who can help us with maintenance of our campsite and support us with general upkeep including DIY, gardening and ground work. We are looking for anyone who is willing to share their time & skills to help us with upkeep in these areas around our site:
  • Trained electrician
  • Trained plumber
  • General DIY
  • Site maintenance
  • Fence repair
  • Ground work
  • Tree work
  • Gardening

SERVICE DAYS

At our service days, volunteers from across the county come, with friends and family, armed with tools and muck in to keep Deer Park looking amazing. From painting to pruning, digging to dusting, it all goes on!

Our next service day will be on Sunday 9 June, so come and join us for all or part of the day between 10am and 4pm. Bring your lunch and any tools you have such as spade, rake, shears, loppers, and secateurs. Express your interest at [email protected]

Upcoming Service days : Sunday 9 June

GIRLGUIDING GROUPS

Your unit, whether it be Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Trefoil Guild or a group of leaders, can come and take part in a service project at Deer Park. We have had Brownies weeding the Boules area (followed by building sandcastles in the boules courts), Rangers painting the shop and lots of groups trying out the log splitter.

Service activities can be carried out as part of your stay at Deer Park or as a site visit, you can combine with an activity onsite.

All Guiding groups that participate in service projects get a free badge (that can't be bought!)

BUSINESSES AND OTHER GROUPS

As a business or group of individuals you can help us to keep up and running so that we can continue to offer a wide range of opportunities to the young members within Girlguiding Gloucestershire, and further afield.

We have had a variety of companies visiting us, with group sizes ranging from 3 to 30 plus. They have helped us to paint and tidy up activity areas, clear our stable block to be a usable area again, painted buildings inside and out, and more.

If you are interested then please contact us and we can discuss the right project for your team.
